Here's a prototype bottle of my ghost scents...you know the ones I made for Megan Crewe, author of Give Up the Ghost. The book is being released on Sept. 15!

This bottle is 1/4 oz. of smell goodness. I hope to get some books to offer gift sets, as these would make AWESOME gifts for the young adult book readin' set. Something I would have LOVED when I was a kid.

I am very happy with how these came out. Took me DAYS to figure out how to make it work.

So anyway, I'll be back to post the progress and update y'all when I get them all ready. Whee!

Powder Changes

Pouf!

Instead of raising prices on the dusting powder, I am cutting back from 4 oz. to 3.5. I decided to do this for a couple of reasons...one being I don't want to raise prices. Another being, those suckers are a PITA to fill. The powder is my FAVorITE product to use. It's my least fav. to make.

So I'm in the process of changing my etsy listings & photos and notifying my wholesale accounts.

Thanks for understanding. You're an understanding bunch. Mmmmwah!

Yeah, I know. It's been A LONG time. I sorta took a powder from this whole blogging thing...I was slow to update to begin with, but then I feel into the abyss known as "Summer Vacation". With 3 young-ins (youngins? you know KIDS), around 24/7 since May 15th...it's been well...let's just say...a VERY LONG summer. Only two weeks 'til school starts! Whee!

So I'm excited. And no, not just because of the back to school/return of my sanity thang. I also have some FABULOUS news! I've been keeping a secret for 9 months. (Oh, shut up. No, I didn't conceal a pregnancy and recently give birth. I'm a little unusual sometimes, but, come on, a BABY??? Geez...)

Well, I wanted brag a little about my new bracelet that's heading my way. ^^See^^

My etsy pal jetflair made it for me! I mailed her some cabochons I made in my glass kiln and she picked this one to set in silver & solder to a cool copper cuff!

That particular cabochon has been kicking around this place for a while now. It never exactly inspired me. I always thought it looked like a chrysalis, cocoon, kind of buggy. I kind of just tossed it in with the others for her to have--thinking it didn't do much for me--so let it go to someone else (cough, cough get it out of my house)...

Now it's coming back all transformed into beautiful bangle!

I just love it. I can't wait to get it & try it out on my freakishly thin wrists.

Well, the bath & body biz is doin' fine. (Just in case you were wondering...I'll pretend you were wondering...)

I discovered a new beverage. YUM!

Not to be confused with other Jager drinks...this stuff is actually delicious!

I like it. A LOT. In hot tea. Over ice with a generous squeeze of lime a splash of sparkling water. Holymotherofgod, it is really good...Perfect for this crazy weather we have in Texas during the "winter". (Where it's 85 one day, the next 33.)

Okay. No one call AA. It's alright. I'm not constantly thinking about Barenjager...that I'll ever admit to.

AND...I have another LOVE. A new, very heavy, very sharp KNIFE.

I cannot believe I have lived so long & never had a really good knife. I found my new 6" chef knife at Tuesday Morning for $19.99. It's a beautiful thing. I've never had such a sharp knife. Ever. For real. I'm telling the truth. I'd sleep with this thing if it weren't a bad idea. Wanna know the very first thing I cut with it???

Yeah??? Okay, it was a little green lime. I took a healthy wedge out of it...

Oh, don't get me wrong! I enjoyed having a paid holiday when I got them. I just never understood the reasoning for having it off. Obviously, it's nice for recuperating from a hangover. But it would make as much sense to me if we had Arbor Day off...

I've been in heaven lately, making some special gift sets for thesoapboxco.com. Vanilla + cardamom + amber + a titch o' secret ingredient. Holy moly it's nice.

Here's a cardamom recipe--cookies, delish! Honest, they are awesome.
SWEDISH FN SUGAR COOKIES
(unofficial name)

1 cup butter
2 ¼ cup sugar, divided
2 eggs
5 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
1 ½ teaspoon ground cardamom
½ cup milk

Preheat oven to 350°. Put ABBA Gold in CD player. Cream butter & 2 cups sugar, add eggs, one at a time, beating well. Combine flour baking soda, baking powder, salt & cardamom. Add to the creamy mixture alternately with milk; beat well. Dip rounded spoonful of dough into remaining sugar. Place on a a greased cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes or until light brown. Cool on a rack. You’re a Dancing Queen. Yields 6 dozen.

I dunno, maybe with all the election rah, rah this month I'm feeling a bit patriotic. (Peanut gallery waves little flags--yay America!)

I was mixing up a new fragrance for the Soapbox Company (it's gorgeous, btw) and I started thinking about all my suppliers. I regularly place orders with a dozen or so. (which is murder on my inventory & hubs hates tripping over all my packages, but I digress...)

So anyway, while I was formulating fab new blend, I noticed a small bottle of fragrance from a small business that closed this year. I don't know what exactly caused them to purge their on-hand & turn the lights off, but it was kind of a sad moment when I learned of the going-out-of-business sale.

Super Bad Soap is small potatoes* when it comes the bath & body care world but I am proud to let you know that when y'all buy from me you have also supported at least TWELVE other small America business. YAY!

Perhaps when you are doing your holiday shopping, consider where your gifts are sourced and who makes them.

*No potatoes or potato fragrances are used in the handcrafting of Super Bad...Yet.

Ugh.

I have a new hobby.

Knitting. Stitch-witchery is more like it. I finally understand the big knitting resurgence/craze/mania. I have sipped from the giant fuzzy punch bowl...there's no turning back.

So here's the deal with my new compulsion...

My super-cool & hip friend Allison mentioned that she loved knitting and I immediately begged her to show me how. After a few months of talking about it, we finally got together last Thursday while our children were in preschool. It was so much fun! And despite my initial frustration I get it! Yay!

And now, I spend all my time searching for free patterns & printing them off. I sit in bed & practice. I am determined to stitch up some leg warmers for the girls while they are still in fashion. Forget about the fact I haven't even finished the simple, simple scarf I said I was making for my first project. I'm ready to start on an "Advanced Beginner" project.

Really, that's pretty good of me. I usually start off wanting to create something major--like a replica of my car in knit.

I am always telling people about my "internet friends". I am usually greeted with deep breaths & rolling eyes, but you know, what-EVAH.

Well, I'm going to gush about one of my "special" internet friends. No, no. Not that kinda special, just your regular stranger/stalker admiration. The kind that makes your heart skip a beat when you are acknowledged with snarky comments on a soap forum. (Yes, there are forums dedicated specifically to SOAP. You know the kind you wash with...real soap, not those synthetic detergent bars you get 12 for $2 at the grocery store...)

My fondness extends not only through time zones, but also HEMISPHERES. Yes. Hemispheres.

Since she opened her etsy shop, I've had the privilege of procuring 4 of her gorgeous bars...Caraboo, Vanilla, Sea Flower & Inflorescence. Caraboo was my absolute favorite. Ylang & Vetiver--but I swear it has a bit of lavender in it--smells so pretty. Vanilla was too irresistible. Patti probably doesn't condone this, but I did it anyway...I brushed my toothbrush across it & scrubbed my teeth. It was DELIGHTFUL. vanilla-y goodness!

I have been saving Inflorescence (rose geranium & ylang...spot a trend with me yet?) for when I need some Australia-based indulgence...especially since I can't get Tim Tams--way fewer calories, too!

On my Soap Forum, she generously (and wickedly honestly--mwahaha!) dispenses advice. I don't know how many of us North Americaners heed her advice, but I subscribe to the "if Patti sez it--write it down & just FN do it!"

If it wasn't enough, Patti makes incredibly beautiful soap, she also collects rainwater in mass quantities AND is a globe-trotting maniac with a golden palate. She has a yard full of kitties, a devastatingly photographically-charming husband (who WORKS WITH her), and is savagely funny and amply amusing.

Patti says things like "Sweet Jesus On a Stick!" and when asked which dipping sauce to pass, she smoothly replies "Hot Chili, please."

How can you possibly NOT love her.

Other than awesome new green boots, what's better than crazy-fun jewelry?

Being buds with the crazy-fun jewelry artist. Yeppers, Sarah makes eclectic little whimsies and she is my pal.

Sarah's pieces are like little tales, bits & pieces of memories pinned down in wire. Never actually witnessed the assembling of her creations, I imagine Sarah digging through an old cigar box filled with childhood treasures. A kitty button from an old baby sweater. A tat of lace. Rhinestones from granny's bracelet. Discarded watch parts. Shells and pebbles. Skeleton keys.

Then with a modest length of wire and the lightning fast wrists of a Rubik's Cube Champion, she twists & bends the wire around the focal artifact. A bead or two, and viola! She's done.

I like to say we've collaborated on some pieces, but it's more like "Sar, here's some glass cabochons I made in my kiln, do something fab with them!" And she does. It's amazing...really.

The 2nd season of Shear Genius has started again! Yay! I lovelovelovelove this show. Did y'all watch the first season? My favorite, Tabitha, did not even make it to the final 3. Tabitha, sweet sweet venomous flesh searing piercing eyes with sharper scissor skills & matching razor blade tongue. SHE was awesome. I'd let her cut my hair and tear me a new one any day!

Daniel is my favorite to win. I want to carry him around in my purse. I'd pull him out & let him sit on my shoulder and whisper catty comments in my ear. Isn't he a doll???

I HATE this show because it causes me to desire a cool haircut & color in the worst way. Every time I watch the show, I want to get my hair done. But I never do anything about it & just pine away for good hair. Sigh. It's a sick cycle.

My Bathroom Can Beat Up Your Bathroom

It's the "Greatest Bathroom of All Time". Oh yeah. Our downstairs bathroom is seriously awesome now. I sense a little envy.

I was cruising through etsy.com & came across crazy vinyl decal of Bruce Lee. Initially, I thought "HIIIII-YAH!" and might have even some faux karate moves.

But not being one to decorate with an Asian aesthetic, I sent a quick email asking about getting a decal of Muhammad Ali. (Who knew I was an Ali fan??? Latent boxing theme decorating, I guess...)

So a week or so later, Dave at BadAssCustomDecals had made up my very own sticky-back version of the former Cassius Clay. (Picture based on a picture of his victory over Sonny Liston, another famous boxer guy.)

All the trim in the bathroom is a green-turquoise and the walls are a bright white. Super awesomeness, eh?

I am now dying to find a boxing bell. They go quickly on ebay. Boo.

Hey! It's hot here in Texas now! Sugar scrubs will deflate in the heat and not be all pretty & fluffy. Your jar may not look full, but they are filled by weight. (What does it say on a bag of chips? Yep. I would not have made a good hippie. I could have embraced many of the long-haired hippie stereotypes, no bra, leather head band, peace symbol pendant. But if I had to wear patchouli scented anything, they wouldn't let me join the freeloveapalooza. Gag.

I have pets. I have kids. I can tolerate a lot of odors. But I cannot handle patchouli. Gag

Gives me a raging headache accompanied by nausea. Gag.

Just thinking about it kicks my gag reflex into action.

Today was the last day of preschool! Wah!!! I will miss it more than my little girl.

Ahhh...new flip-flops. Or "thongs" if you prefer. I am very picky when it comes to sandals. I normally don't go for flip-flops. The traditional thong style make my feet look odd, and they remind me too much of shower shoes.

But I like these. I like the spongy texture of the footbed and the crisscross straps hold my feet in attractively (important feature).

This weekend I was busy working in the Garage de Super Bad, making some pretty glass! I finished a trio of loteria card sammies, some cherries & poppies.

Not Just for Babies

You know, I hear a lot "I'm just not a powder kind of girl...". It is usually followed by nose scrunching for whatever reason.

Seems like you either a rabid fan or a resolutely nose scruncher when it comes to body powder. Maybe with a little more caffeine I could figure out the psychology behind what makes a girl "pro-powder" or "anti-powder". Honestly, I think that I would need a nice cocktail before coming to any sort of conclusion on that topic.

So, anyway, for all you powder girls, let's discuss!

I started using body powder when I moved to Texas. A little here & there to keep the undies comfy. It gets HOT here! No sense in being all sweaty, kwim?

My powder making began after exploring my options...

Off the shelf, I found:

Baby powder (mmm~ smells like diaper changing time!)
Medicated varieties targeted at EXTREME body odor and wetness
Glitter-shimmer-nightmares that leaves the bathroom looking like a fairy crime scene

Not exactly my bag...but with some research & lots of testing I came up with a version that meets my dusting needs and fragrance sensibilities. Whee!

So what's all that stuff in Super Bad Dusting Powder???

Well, it contains food grade starches for silky application, natural clay and mineral-rich zinc oxide for absorption. Perfect for combating humidity and reducing friction caused by clothing.

Bonus! It's satiny smooth & scented in decidedly grown-up fragrances. Yay!

Powder girls, what's your fav???

I got new shoes!!!!

I was out looking for new sandals and fell for these babies. They match my purse.

Now all I need are some new tops so I can walk around all matchy-matchy.

New This Spring!

I've got some new scents in the works that will debut this Spring!

Rarely Wrong: "I'm not always right. I'm just rarely wrong." Three vanillas spiked with fresh basil.

Mmm! I am totally crazy for this scent. It's definitely vanilla, but the basil gives it a spicy depth with the bite of anise. If you are NOT a fan of black jelly beans, do not let Rarely Wrong frighten you. Bleh, I am not keen on black jelly beans. This is good stuff! Black jelly bean fans, you'll like this because...well, I'm pretty certain it'll appeal to y'all. ;)

Currently Seeking a Name: "Some girls like ponies & princesses. Some girls like skateboards, mud & ROCK & ROLL!" Violets, marshmallows & more booty kickin' than tae kwon do.

Heh! One of my little girls was jumping off the swing set yelling "ROCK & ROLL!" I asked her what she was doing & she explained about the different kinds of girls. My kid is awesome.

AND...I am formulating a blueberry & honeysuckle blend that is totally outta this universe. Well, at least North America.

If anyone has a name suggestion or scent idea, send me a note!

I make stuff. I love to make things. I always have. My earliest memories are of creating thing.

Except for a few classes here & there, I am a self-taught Create-trix. (See? I'm GOOD. I just MADE up that word right now.)

I love absurd, pretentious, bright colors, smart, clever and pretty things. I like baby animals, flowers and things that smell good. And crazy stuff. Yeah, crazy is good. I like crazy.

(Not too keen on unicorns or rainbows. Sorry.)

My primary medium is glass. It's fragile, yet rigid. It's DANGEROUS! SO SHARP! At any minute I could get CUT and BLEED. Or BURNED! And some chemicals I work with...oh don't get me started on the perils of chemicals...

It's my craft. I love prettyshinycolorful glass. I have a decent stock of band-aids and know the number for 9-1-1.

I also create delightful bath and body products. Cosmetic chemistry is very interesting! Oh, had I known back in college that there was such a thing as "cosmetic chemisty", I'd have signed up for that instead of all those journalism classes and gotten a math tutor...
